Target set for 43 million safe internet users

According to information from the 2024 Performance Program of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), the expansion of high-capacity fixed, mobile, and wireless broadband networks and services, along with the development of fiber infrastructure, are among the institution's strategic priorities.

In this context, focus has been placed on projects aimed at expanding broadband internet, making fiber infrastructure accessible nationwide, and facilitating a smoother transition to 5G and beyond technologies.

The aim is to ensure a transition to 5G using the highest possible rate of domestic and national products with a reliable infrastructure, and to transfer expertise to next-generation communication technologies.

CYBER SECURITY

The institution aims to further develop the understanding of cyber security across the country through the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM), which operates within the organization.

It is projected that the number of Cyber Incident Response Teams (SOME) will reach 2,180 by the end of 2024, and the number of expert personnel working in SOMEs registered with USOM will be increased to 7,050.

The number of malicious links is expected to reach 85 thousand next year, and the number of cyber security incident notifications sent by USOM to institutions and organizations is expected to reach 13,700.

MOBILE SUBSCRIBER COUNT TO REACH 93 MILLION

While it is estimated that the number of users of the safe internet service, which is offered free of charge by internet service providers and largely protects children and families from harmful content on the internet, will reach 30 million by the end of this year, the target for next year is to increase this to 43 million.

The fiber infrastructure length, which is expected to reach 550 thousand kilometers by the end of this year, is aimed to be increased to 600 thousand kilometers in 2024.

Fiber broadband subscriber density is also expected to increase during this process. This density is expected to reach 10 percent next year.

The target is to increase the number of fiber internet subscribers to 9 million and the number of Registered Electronic Mail (KEP) accounts to 2 million 350 thousand in 2024.

It is projected that the number of machine-to-machine (M2M) subscribers will be increased to 9 million 100 thousand in 2024, and the number of mobile subscribers will be increased to 93 million 500 thousand.

Among the targets are for the mobile broadband subscriber penetration rate to reach 96 percent, the number of qualified electronic certificates to reach 8 million 150 thousand, and the fixed broadband subscriber penetration rate to be 27 percent.
