Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei distances himself from Hamas: 'We will not go to war on your behalf'
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that while they will continue their political and moral support for Hamas, he told Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, 'We will not go to war for you.'
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has not embraced the Al-Aqsa Flood operation launched by Hamas against Israel on October 7.
Speaking to Reuters, three senior Hamas and Iranian officials reported that Khamenei told Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh: "You did not inform us about the October 7 attack. We will not go to war for you. However, we will continue to provide political and moral support."
"CONTINUED POLITICAL AND MORAL SUPPORT"
In the first week of November, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei met with Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, Iranian and Hamas officials stated that Khamenei told Haniyeh: "Iran will continue to provide political and moral support to Hamas, but will not be directly involved in the war."
Khamenei also requested that Haniyeh pressure those calling for Iran and Hezbollah to join the Israel-Hamas war to silence them.
