Kremlin: Putin made the decision to grant asylum to Assad
Following the collapse of the regime in Syria, the Kremlin has issued a statement regarding the decision to grant political asylum in Russia to Bashar al-Assad and his family. Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin, made comments to journalists on the matter.
As a result of the rapid developments in Syria, the Syrian regime has collapsed under the forces of the jihadist HTS.
After a period during which there was no news of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Russian news agency Tass reported that he had arrived in Russia.
A statement on the subject also came from Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov. Speaking to journalists, Peskov stated that the decision to grant political asylum to Bashar al-Assad and his family was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Kremlin spokesperson said, "Of course, such decisions cannot be made without the head of state."
