Trump's 'hush money' trial postponed until after the election

A significant step has been taken in the hush money trial of former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The presiding judge, Juan Merchan, responded in writing to the request from Trump's lawyers to postpone sentencing.

Merchan announced that the sentencing has been postponed to November 26, which is after the US Presidential election to be held on November 5.

Judge Merchan justified the postponement decision with the following words: “The postponement of this request and, if necessary, the sentencing, will eliminate any speculation that the court is acting to provide an advantage or disadvantage to any political party or candidate.”

Furthermore, Merchan noted that Trump has applied to the Supreme Court requesting the cancellation of the immunity decision, and that this request will be decided on November 12.
