Actor Kayhan Yıldızoğlu laid to rest

Kayhan Yıldızoğlu, who starred in series that left their mark on television history, has passed away at the age of 90. The master actor's ex-wife, Suna Yıldızoğlu, also attended the funeral ceremony held in Istanbul.

Kayhan Yıldızoğlu, whom we know from series such as Çiçek Taksi, Selena, Sevda Çiçeği, and Akasya Durağı, passed away recently.

A funeral ceremony was held today in Istanbul for the master actor, whose death plunged the art world into mourning. A funeral prayer was first held for Yıldızoğlu at the Levent Mosque.

The master actor's ex-wife, Suna Yıldızoğlu, who attended the ceremony, was overcome with tears at the coffin.

In accordance with his wishes, the master actor was laid to rest next to his mother in Feriköy.

'THEY ARE LEAVING ONE BY ONE'

Kayhan Yıldızoğlu’s ex-wife Suna Yıldızoğlu said, “We haven't just lost an artist; we have lost an individual from a very important generation. They are leaving one by one, and frankly, I don't see anyone who can fill their shoes. As I talk about him, as I describe him, my heart opens up. Even from here, he is giving off positive energy.”

'GOD MUST HAVE LOVED HIM'

Actor and theater performer Müjdat Gezen stated, “We met at the City Theater in 1960. It continued from that day on, and he performed his last play at my theater. He received a lot of applause and was very well-liked. He was a very good actor. We have many films and many theater plays together. My first play was with him, and we performed his last play together as well. On a day like this, the first day of Ramadan, it means God must have loved him to take him by His side.”

'WE LOVED HIM EVEN WHEN HE PLAYED THE VILLAIN'

Film producer and screenwriter Birol Güven stated that Yıldızoğlu was a very important name, saying, “We all owe a great debt to Yeşilçam. We got to know amazing characters there. Kayhan Yıldızoğlu appeared before us with such diverse, varied, and rich characters. We loved him even when he played the villain. He was a very warm, very amazing actor. May he rest in peace.”

WHO IS KAYHAN YILDIZOĞLU?

Kayhan Yıldızoğlu was born on December 26, 1936, in Yeşilköy, Istanbul, as the first child. His father, Rahmi Bey, was an agricultural engineer of Circassian descent, and his mother was a teacher from Crete.

In 1952, his father was appointed to Ankara for an undersecretariat position at the ministry, and they moved to Ankara. Thus, he attended high school in Kavaklıdere. After high school, he studied at the faculty of law at his family's request, but dropped out in his third year.

After completing his military service as a reserve officer in Istanbul in 1957, he became a customs commissioner. He married Türkan Suner, whom he met there.

He had two daughters from this marriage. However, they divorced a few years later. After the separation, he spent three and a half years in a house in Cihangir with Şener Şen.

He met theater actor Muhsin Ertuğrul by chance at his workplace and was invited to auditions; as a result of the auditions, he spent 20 years at the Istanbul City Theater.

Kayhan Yıldızoğlu, who made his first film in 1966, acted in nearly 180 films and also appeared in television series. In Turkish cinema, he generally played supporting roles such as priests, doctors, commissioners, professors, bandits, and outlaws.

Kayhan Yıldızoğlu passed away on March 9, 2024.
