Artist Jisbar's first exhibition in Istanbul meets art lovers

Jisbar, who spoke to an AA reporter about the exhibition, which includes 20 works inspired by Istanbul and 40 original prints, said, "This is my first time in Istanbul. I researched Istanbul extensively while creating my works. Istanbul has a dizzying beauty and a fascinating, mystical atmosphere. This city, which has hosted many civilizations and hides a treasure in every inch of its soil, has impressed me a lot."

Stating that he finds the Turkish people very warm, Jisbar shared the following:

"First of all, I felt the magnificence of the city when I landed at the airport. Istanbul's new airport is very clean, large, and well-organized. I was very surprised when I saw these. After getting into a taxi, I observed the streets a bit; people are living their lives in this city, going to cafes, eating at restaurants. This made me feel like I was in a living city."

The artist, who stated that he drew inspiration from Istanbul for the works in the exhibition, also said that the historical and architectural structure of the Kalyon Kültür Taş Konak was influential.

'TURKEY'S POTENTIAL IS VERY GREAT'

Noting that he has had the opportunity to exhibit his works all over the world, Jisbar continued as follows:

"We have carried out a harmonious work with the team we have been working with here for 6 months. I realized that Turkey has a very great potential. Dualities hold an important place in my work. I think dualities are one of the elements that make up human nature. I think it has a magical air. Also, Paris, the city where I live, contains a lot of duality. I think this is reflected in my work. The space we are in also reflects the concept of duality very well. It is a place that brings together both tradition and modernity."

Emphasizing that contemporary art is not very useful for him, the artist said, "It is true that contemporary art pushes people to think about things, but I think pop art is more useful because it makes you feel freer since it does not impose a style on its own. But in general, I think art is important because it inspires people and directs them to think beautifully."

'I WAS AN INTROVERTED CHILD'

Pointing out that he is very inspired by his surroundings, Jisbar said, "When we think about what is happening in the world right now, we are going through a very crazy time. But I wish for art to be a hope against all these negativities. I hope to reflect this especially to the younger generations. I think art plays an important role for children to express themselves. I was also an introverted child, but I had the opportunity to discover the world through art."

The exhibition can be visited until February 14, 2024.
