Chita Rivera's daughter, Lisa Mordente, announced that Chita Rivera, one of Broadway's most famous stars, passed away in New York following an illness.
The Tony Award-winning artist began her Broadway career in the 1950s, appearing in productions such as Can-Can and Mr. Wonderful.
Some of her best-known roles include Anita in West Side Story and Rose in Bye Bye Birdie.

Chita Rivera (January 23, 1933 – January 30, 2024) was a Latin-American actress, dancer, and singer. Rivera was born in Washington, D.C., on January 23, 1933, to a family of Latin descent.
She continued her music and acting career, which began in 1950, until her death in 2024. She appeared primarily in musical stage productions. She was one of the first women of Latin descent to perform in this style in the United States.
Some of the productions she appeared in include Sweet Charity, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Chicago, and The Outer Limits. For her work, she won the Kennedy Center Honors (December 2002) and a Tony Award, and she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
Rivera, who had one daughter from her marriage to Tony Mordente, died of natural causes in New York City on January 30, 2024, at the age of 91.
