World-renowned singer Melanie Safka, known for tracks such as 'Nickel Song', 'The Saddest Thing', 'The Good Book', and 'Together Alone', has passed away at the age of 76.
Melanie, one of the three female singers to perform solo at the 1969 Woodstock Festival, has passed away at the age of 76.
The news of the singer's death, whose full name was Melanie Safka, was announced by her children on social media.
'OUR MOTHER HAS PASSED FROM THIS WORLD'
The statement included the words, "This is the hardest post for us to write. There is so much we want to say, and there is no easy way to say it. Our mother has passed from this world."
No mention was made of the artist's cause of death.
WHO IS SINGER MELANIE SAFKA?
Melanie Safka was born in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, New York.
She drew attention with her solo performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival when she was 22 years old.
Melanie won an Emmy Award in 1989 for writing the lyrics to "The First Time I Loved Forever," the theme song for the television series Beauty and the Beast.
Melanie Safka passed away on January 23, 2024.
