Behçet Necatigil and Gülten Akın Poems are Guests at the 'Istanbul Meets Poetry' Event

Istanbul Meets Poetry: “Not Now, Later” (Behçet Necatigil)

Not Now, Later is a special journey into the poetic universe of Behçet Necatigil. The adaptation, based on the poet's works, centers on his poem "Solgun Bir Gül Oluyor Dokununca" (It Becomes a Pale Rose When Touched). "Not Now, Later," dramatized by Yıldıray Şahinler based on Behçet Necatigil's poems and featuring Levent Üzümcü, Derya Çetinel, and Cihat Faruk Sevindik, will meet the audience at the Müze Gazhane Meydan Stage on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 18:00.

Istanbul Meets Poetry: “I Was Responsible for the Narcissus” (Gülten Akın)

In this event, which explores the universe of poems written by Gülten Akın and is adapted and directed by Emre Koyuncuoğlu, Radife Baltaoğlu, Sevil Akı, Yeşim Koçak, Işıl Zeynep Karaalp, Şirin Asutay, Ebru Üstüntaş, and Elvan Boran take the stage. The event will take place on January 21, 2024, at 18:00 at the Müze Gazhane Meydan Stage.

OEDIPUS REX (Guest Play) (Yugoslav Drama Theatre)

Oedipus, facing the disaster that has befallen the city he rules, sets out to find the person responsible for an old crime that the Delphi oracle claims is the cause of the suffering. Oedipus, who tries to save the city from evil while also struggling to maintain power, discovers an even darker secret hidden behind the old crime, which leads to a tragedy of unimaginable proportions.

Written by Sophocles and directed by Vito Taufer, the play features Milan Maric, Nataşa Ninkoviç, Srcan Timarov, Bojan Dimitrijevic, Aleksandar Djurica, Milos Samolov, Nebojsa Ljubisic, Zoran Cvijanoviç, Joakim Tasiç, Marko Radojevic, Milan Bobic, Luka Antoniyeviç, Luka Seviç, and Veljko Stevanoviç. ROUND TRIP MOSCOW (RETRO)

Nikolai Mikhailovich Chmutin, who began living with his daughter and son-in-law in Moscow after his wife's death, wants to go to his village in the hope of living a quiet and peaceful life. His daughter Ludmilla, who thinks her father cannot live alone in the village, and her husband Leonid, with whom he cannot get along, make plans to marry him off. Leonid invites three lonely women to the house, hoping that Chmutin will choose one as a wife. Plans get complicated when all three bride candidates arrive at the house at the same time.

THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS

Pantolone has decided to marry his daughter Dottore to his son Silvio and organizes a ceremony at his home. The young people are in love, but things get complicated when Federico Rasponi, whom they thought was dead and to whom Pantolone had previously promised his daughter, arrives at this ceremony. One of the distinguished examples of the Italian Folk Theatre Commedia Dell'Arte, which feeds on oral tradition, the play, which progresses with the cunning quick-wittedness of the servant Truffaldino, offers its audience a pleasant viewing experience. The moment he finishes writing his suicide note, the doorbell rings. Standing before him is a guest he has never seen before, a stranger. The man who arrives is in command of everything regarding his life and his entire childhood. As time passes, the conversation becomes intriguing.

An impressive internal reckoning begins. Written by Savaş Dinçel and directed by Barış Dinçel, the play features Gün Koper and Ali Yoğurtçuoğlu. The play will be performed at the Üsküdar Musahipzade Celal Stage between January 3-6, 2024, and at the Beylikdüzü Yakuplu Rasim Öztekin Stage on January 27, 2024.

BEDROOM FARCE

The play reveals the intertwined lives of four couples at different stages of their marriages with an extraordinary but funny perspective. The concept of marriage is examined by going beyond traditional, customary patterns and rules, through the relationships of couples that are shaken and rebuilt for strange reasons.

Written by Alan Ayckbourn, translated by Mert Dilek, and directed by Ali Gökmen Altuğ, the play features Aslıhan Kandemir, Ayşen Sezerel, Buket Kubilay, Engin Gürmen, Gökçer Genç, Mert Aykul, Nurdan Kalınağa, and Özgür Atkın. IN THE EARLY MORNING

Güneşi, who grew up in a wealthy family, runs away from her family's impositions and moves into a modest apartment to build her own free life. Feriha, who moves into the apartment right next door, enters the life of Güneşi, who is struggling in a void and is strictly attached to her ideologies.

The hope and happiness of Feriha, who finally manages to move into the 'house with a roof that doesn't leak' that she has dreamed of all her life, will bring many innovations to Güneşi's world. Written by Nezihe Meriç and directed by Hülya Karakaş, the play features Ayşe Günyüz Demirci and Hülya Karakaş. The play will be performed at the Gaziosmanpaşa Stage between January 3-6, 2024.

IPHIGENIA

The first great war between East and West: The Achaean army is about to set out on the Trojan expedition. The united army navy needs wind to escape the port where it is trapped and to take action. Because Commander-in-Chief Agamemnon killed one of Artemis's sacred deer, the goddess has cut off his wind and trapped everyone in this port. While the army of ninety-nine kings is dying of disease, the eyes of the soldiers waiting in anger are on Agamemnon.

Not only himself and his position, but the whole country, especially his family, is in danger. There is only one thing left for Agamemnon to do: Sacrifice his most precious possession, his daughter Iphigenia, to the gods!..

OSCAR

Christian is in love with Jacqueline, and Colette is in love with Oscar. Christian intends to ask for the girl he has loved for a long time from Monsieur Bernard. Colette, on the other hand, is planning to marry her lover with a lie she told her father, Monsieur Bernard. However, neither is Christian asking for the right girl, nor is Colette about to marry the right man. The events, which get complicated in a few minutes, do not seem easy to solve at all.

The play is about the story of a family that lived through the September 12 coup period in the most painful way and was torn apart, extending to the present day. Leyla confronts her family's past and risks changing her life to tell their story.

The life left behind by a man who committed suicide, his confrontation with his mistakes, and his subsequent process of self-discovery are told. The play also examines many concepts that shape a person, such as patience, struggle, and lack of memory. Written by Yiğit Sertdemir and directed by Burçak Çöllü, the play features Emrah Can Yaylı, Pelin Budak, and Tankut Yıldız. WAR AND PEACE

"War and Peace," which takes place between 1805 and 1820 and also has the characteristics of a historical narrative, is about the Russian aristocracy whose lives changed completely just before Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812.

While love affairs, family, and salon life are described on one side, war and the irreversible destruction of war continue. While "War and Peace" carries the characteristics of a historical narrative in many respects, it is also an epic work that contains philosophical thoughts about life, beliefs, and the purpose of human life, and includes political and sociological inferences.

In the play, where wars and battles, and historical figures such as Napoleon and Kutuzov form the background, love stories, personal weaknesses, family conflicts, and losses create a panorama that extends from the general public to each character in the play. In the play, selected tirades of Shakespeare, which come alive again in the memories of Svetlevidov, who stands before us as an important Chekhov character reflecting the hidden longings, angers, and passions of human nature, take the audience on a journey into the actor's past.

With the intoxication of applause, congratulations, love, and fame, Svetlevidov, who has sought happiness and the meaning of life throughout his life, continues to stand without bowing his head even in the face of the fact that he is waiting for death on stage, despite all the disappointments he has left behind and all the troubles he has suffered.

An actress who has given life to extraordinary female characters for years says goodbye to a stage that will be demolished to build a shopping mall. The warm and familiar life stories of women from different classes, who are not considered worth telling, are conveyed for the first time.

FUNNY MONEY

On his birthday, Henry accidentally takes someone else's bag instead of his own on the subway while returning from work in the evening. Inside that bag is exactly 1 million 735 thousand pounds. His wife Jean, who is waiting for him at home, is preparing a birthday surprise for Henry. Family friends Betty and Vic are also invited to this birthday celebration. Henry comes home with the bag full of money. Plane tickets are bought immediately, but a detective comes to the house and things get complicated, and a breathless adventure begins.

Based on the tragic life of the 1920s boxing star Johann Wilhelm Trollmann, the play is conveyed to the audience through the testimony of Hans, a fictional character. The duo, who met during their childhood, leave the years behind with a strong bond of friendship.

The gypsy boxer Ruki, who became a star with his unique style, is subjected to the fascist policies and discrimination of Nazi Germany. Even though he becomes the German Champion, this title is not given to him and he is always doomed to lose. A striking story of a friendship to the death, starting in poor neighborhoods and continuing to concentration camps...

POISON

A couple who separated after a tragic loss they experienced in the past is forced to come together years later. This meeting turns into a painful confrontation with the past. The missing pieces about what the other side felt fall into place. The work, which focuses on the perspective of the world of men and women, has been translated into many languages after its Dutch premiere.

FOSFORLU CEVRİYE

Cevriye, who believes she was born from the stars in the sky because she does not know her parents, who grew up as a street child in the arms of the sea, and who "performs art" in the Galata district to feed herself, is not just an ordinary street girl, but the very streets of Istanbul. On that night when she is close to death from illness and cold, she holds on to life and a great love thanks to a mysterious Man she encounters.

This Man, who is not like any of the men Cevriye has known before and who addresses her as "you," is actually a death row prisoner living in hiding. After the day Cevriye met him, she became a completely different "person." Despite prison, exile, the passage of time, and all kinds of trouble, Cevriye, who does not give up on this love, will risk everything for the one she loves.

In the play, the Istanbul of the 1930s-40s is presented with rich descriptions. The relationship of women, mothers, children, and flashy young men trying to hold on to life in the back streets, prisons, and dens of the neighborhoods with authority is conveyed through striking stories.

When Suat Derviş returned to Turkey in the early 60s, she was going through a difficult period in political, professional, and financial terms. She offered the novel "Fosforlu Cevriye" to publishing houses, but unfortunately, it was rejected every time. Suat Hanım's great desire was not just the publication of this work, but to see it adapted as a "musical"... The first person she met for this was the young actress Gülriz Sururi... AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE

GODOT HAS ARRIVED

"Godot Has Arrived" is a play written by Montenegrin writer Miodrag Bulatovic, following and as a "reference" to the work "Waiting for Godot" by Irish writer Samuel Beckett... The "event" takes place in a swamp. In Beckett's play; Godot is waited for... In Bulatovic's play, Godot arrives as a baker...

While Beckett presents a universal recital based on concepts in his work, Bulatovic, although he has processed the same thematic structure, has turned more towards "symbols" by changing the structure of the characters and, to some extent, the place... In both Beckett and Bulatovic, what is important for those waiting is not actually who the expected person is, but the waiting itself... In this case; we can say for "Godot Has Arrived" that it is the story of a "comer" whose identity is not fully known, turning into a definitely defined "goer"...

In the play, which tells about the civil war period between the Nationalists and the Republicans in Spain, two variety actors, Carmela and Paulino, are taken hostage by the Nationalists led by Franco. They are forced into a show they do not want by the Nationalists celebrating the occupation of the city of Belchite. As a result of this coercion, the war they are in, questioning art and the artist with the question "should the show be performed or not?", the rebellions, ups and downs, and losses of these two actors, who aim to make people laugh and entertain as part of their job, are told. Written by Jose Sanchis Sinisterra, translated by Yalçın Baykul, and directed by Naşit Özcan, the play features Ada Alize Ertem, Çağatay Palabıyık, and Erkan Akkoyunlu. A WORLD WITHOUT TRASH (3+ Years) (New Play)

One day, when the color of the clouds and the direction of the wind changed due to climate change and air pollution; Uç Uç, a hopeful, happy, and conscious kite, falls into a dump because its tail broke. In the dump, it meets Püsküllü, a rag doll, and Koli Koli, a discarded box. A struggle begins between the Trash King, who holds control of the dump, and his assistant Fly, and Uç Uç, who tries to change their established order.

Through cute characters, the play A World Without Trash addresses topics such as "recycling, repair, zero waste, and color-coded waste bins" in today's world where consumer culture is unconsciously spreading, and seeks answers to the question of how a world free of waste can be possible. Written by Arzu Yurtseven and directed by Nihat Alpteki, the play features Eylül Soğukçay, Pınar Demiral, Engin Akpınar, Samet Silme, and Mehmet Soner Dinç. The play will be performed at the Müze Gazhane Prof. Dr. Sevda Şener Stage on January 28, 2024.

THE NUTCRACKER (7+ Years)

Little Clara forms a special bond with her toy named The Nutcracker, which she received as a New Year's gift. That night, when the beauty behind what is seen will be revealed, a great adventure begins between dream and reality, in other worlds. This folk tale, which has received great attention in opera and cinema with its different versions from the 1800s to the present, is now being staged at the City Theatre in all its glory.

One day a star falls... From the sky... The little girl goes after it... She becomes friends with all of them... In the end, she realizes that the real star is within her, and that it is love, brotherhood, and friendship.

The play tells about what happened in a night spent in the forest by the Sweet Girl, who wants to be friends with the person she wants, not the young man her family wants, with the Handsome Young Man, the Strong Young Man, and the Selvi Girl. Written by William Shakespeare and directed by Musa Arslanali, the play features Ayşe Nurseli Tırışkan Akpınar, Burhan Yeşilyurt, Çağlar Ozan Aksu, Güzin Alkan, Hüseyin Emre Şen, Mehmet Emre Ertunç, Oğuzhan Oğuz, Ömer Naci Boz, Seda Yılmaz, and Serap Doğan. The students of the famous magician Zubi dream of becoming a "master" and getting his magic hat. Zubi organizes a competition to determine the new owner of the magic hat. In the play, which progresses with illusion shows, the importance of moving towards the goal together is explained.

KIRTIK THE APPLE WORM (4-7 Years)

Kırtık the Apple Worm is a fun children's play for children under 7 years old, using puppets and accompanied by live music. It tells the journey of a mischievous apple worm to find the perfect apple. Kırtık, who does not value what he has and looks down on those around him, realizes something much more valuable on this journey instead of reaching the perfect apple he is looking for.

The play, which draws attention to children's relationships with their social environment, aims to develop the child's perception by relating abstract concepts with concrete objects. The play, which recreates the contradictions the child experiences in his daily life in a colorful fantasy world, gives the child a chance to look at his own reality from the outside.
