It has been reported that a criminal organization in the Spanish city of Valencia has been uncovered for stealing the corpses of unclaimed individuals from hospitals using forged documents and selling them to medical schools.

In statements made by the Police Department, it was announced that the Spanish National Police apprehended 4 male Spanish citizens, aged between 41 and 74, during an operation conducted in the city for the crime of stealing and selling corpses.

The statement indicated that the criminal organization took delivery of corpses belonging to unclaimed individuals who passed away in hospitals or nursing homes by preparing forged documents and sold them to medical schools to be used as cadavers.

FORGERY OF DOCUMENTS WAS DISCOVERED

The Spanish police stated that the investigation was launched after it was noticed that the corpse of a person who died at the beginning of 2023 was irregularly removed from the morgue of a hospital in Valencia by a funeral home, and that forgery had been committed in the hospital registry and the documents submitted to the civil registry office.

The statement noted that the criminal organization in question tracked individuals who were unclaimed, elderly, or at high risk, and after their deaths, they took the corpses with forged documents and sold them to medical schools for 1,200 euros.
