In Kırşehir, in the Medrese neighborhood, a dervish lodge fountain known to have been built in the 1820s has come to the fore after a group of people spray-painted graffiti on it and left shoes under the fountain.
Şenol Dönmez, who teaches his students about the city's history, emphasized the historical importance of the fountain and carried out a cleaning effort with his students.
'I WAS ASTONISHED'
Dönmez pointed out that 18 fountains across Kırşehir have been vandalized by thoughtless individuals and stated, "I take my students to visit historical sites. The public knows it as the Halk Imaret fountain, but I saw the dervish lodge fountain and was astonished."
Dönmez noted that the fountain, built during the Ottoman period, was constructed with a single facade and cut stone.
'SUCH STRUCTURES NEED TO BE RESTORED'
However, stating that the current condition of the fountain is terrible, Dönmez said, "The fountain is single-faced and made of cut stone. Its current state is terrible. I was embarrassed while walking with my students. Such structures need to be restored."
