AFAD: 4 people rescued alive
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that 4 people were rescued alive from a building that sustained partial damage in Elazığ following the 5.9-magnitude earthquake that occurred in Malatya.

In a statement made by AFAD, it was stated, "On October 16, 2024, at 10:46, a 5.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Kale district of our Malatya province. Field scanning efforts by our AFAD teams from Malatya, Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa, Elazığ, Batman, and Tunceli, as well as teams from the General Directorate of Security and the Gendarmerie, are ongoing. A total of 374 reports have been received by the 112 Emergency Call Center due to the earthquake. Damage has occurred in a total of 4 buildings in our Malatya, Şanlıurfa, and Elazığ provinces. 4 people in a building that sustained partial damage in Elazığ province have been rescued alive. Rockfalls have occurred in the Pötürge and Kale districts of Malatya province."
