Counterfeit alcohol operation in 26 provinces: 50 detained
Driven in part by the economic crisis, the production and consumption of counterfeit alcohol are on the rise in Turkey. 50 people have been detained in operations targeting various groups that threaten public health by producing counterfeit and illicit alcohol.

Operations against counterfeit alcohol are continuing. According to a statement made by Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya on his social media account, 50 suspects identified as producing illicit or counterfeit alcohol were apprehended in operations conducted last week.
As a result of efforts coordinated by the General Directorate of Security's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Department and the Gendarmerie General Command's KOM Department, and carried out by Provincial Police Departments and Provincial Gendarmerie Commands' KOM Branches, "Çengel-7" operations were conducted in Antalya, Muğla, Ankara, Denizli, Amasya, Aydın, Istanbul, Edirne, Eskişehir, Manisa, Kars, Trabzon, Mersin, Izmir, Gaziantep, Balıkesir, Ağrı, Isparta, Bayburt, Bartın, Uşak, Erzincan, Niğde, Sivas, Kırıkkale, and Şırnak targeting individuals producing illicit/counterfeit alcohol.
In the operations conducted over the last week in 26 provinces against individuals producing counterfeit alcohol, 3 thousand 626 liters of illicit/counterfeit alcohol were seized.
