In the trial regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, the defense proceedings for the defendants have been completed. The presiding judge announced the verdict.
Yüksel Güran, Enes Güran, and Salim Güran were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment. Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison.
Following the verdict, former Diyarbakır Bar Association President Nahit Eren made a statement to the press. Eren said the following:
"Even if Nevzat did not kill Narin, it was Nevzat who took Narin to the stream and hid her. Nevzat should also have been punished for killing the child. The decision is incomplete regarding Nevzat. The Diyarbakır Bar Association will appeal the decision concerning Nevzat."
"PARTIALLY SATISFACTORY"
Diyarbakır Bar Association President Abdulkadir Güleç spoke as follows:
"The case, which the public has been following with interest since August 21, has concluded. The court sentenced defendants Enes Güran, Salim Güran, and Yüksel Güran to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of intentional murder in complicity.
The court's decision is partially in line with our demands. We were expecting an aggravated life sentence for Nevzat, but this did not happen.
He was only sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of tampering with evidence."
