Funeral details for Sinan Ateş's father, Musa Ateş, have been announced

Musa Ateş (78), the father of former Idealist Hearths (Ülkü Ocakları) President Sinan Ateş, who was murdered in Ankara, has passed away. The funeral details for Ateş have been finalized.

Musa Ateş, the father of Sinan Ateş, the former President of the Idealist Hearths Education and Culture Foundation who was killed in an armed attack by two individuals on a motorcycle while leaving a building with his friend Selman Bozkurt in Ankara on December 30, 2022, has passed away.

Ateş succumbed to a heart attack without seeing his son's murder case fully resolved.

Musa Ateş's funeral will be held on March 12, 2024, following the noon prayer at the Emir Sultan Mosque in Bursa, after which he will be laid to rest in the Emir Sultan cemetery.

Ateş had been fighting for the clarification of his son's murder since December 2022.

THE SINAN ATEŞ MURDER

On December 30, 2022, former Idealist Hearths President and academic Sinan Ateş was subjected to an armed attack by Eray Özyağcı, who had been hiding behind a vehicle on 1456th Street in the Kızılırmak neighborhood of Çankaya, while he was with his relative Selman Bozkurt.

One bullet fired by Özyağcı hit Bozkurt, while five bullets hit Ateş. Bozkurt was wounded in the shoulder. Ateş was critically injured and died at the hospital where he was taken.

According to the autopsy report, of the five bullets that hit Ateş; one entered through his chin and exited through the top of his head, one entered through his left abdomen and exited through his lower back, and while an exit point was found for a bullet that entered through his left groin area, no exit points were found for another bullet that entered through the same spot or for a bullet that entered through his right groin.

The attack was referred to in the press as the "Sinan Ateş murder," "Sinan Ateş assassination," or "Çukurambar murder," and Ateş was declared a martyr by some. Ateş is the second Idealist Hearths president to be shot and the first to die as a result of being shot.
