Ayşe Ateş, wife of Sinan Ateş, reacts to the prosecutor handling the case taking leave

Former Ülkü Ocakları President Sinan Ateş was killed in an armed attack in Çukurambar, Ankara, on December 30, 2022. Despite a year passing since the assassination of Sinan Ateş, an indictment has still not been prepared.

The prosecutors handling the case have changed many times. Most recently, prosecutor Ayhan Ay, who was conducting the Sinan Ateş murder investigation, took two months of leave after obtaining a medical report.

Ayşe Ateş, the wife of Sinan Ateş, made a statement on her X account this evening, saying, "We want justice."

The statement is as follows:

"WITH EVERY DAY THAT PASSES WITHOUT JUSTICE..."

"To all those responsible for ensuring justice, especially the esteemed Prosecutor Ayhan Ay, who is handling the case of my husband, the martyr Sinan Ateş:

*We want justice. With every day that passes without justice, crime stands taller against punishment with growing arrogance. Arrogance breeds confidence. Confidence overcomes fear. The fear overcome there takes shape here. The eyes of justice are closed, exactly as they should be. But why? We are in the dark.

*We are looking for a light to help us understand. We are waiting. We wait from Friday to Friday, from election to election. It is a wait that has fear on one side and anxiety on the other. Behind it is hope, faith, and belief. In front of it is courage, fortitude, and determination. The place it walks and the direction it takes are dark.

"MOM, THEY WON'T KILL YOU TOO, WILL THEY?..."

*We are looking for a light to illuminate our path. And we know that 'Every darkness carries within it the seeds of the dawn that will end it.' These seeds of dawn, to be planted in the hearts of a weary father, a tearful mother, a grieving wife, a sibling who has lost half of themselves, and two children who wake up from many of their sleeps with a scream of 'Father,' are justice itself.

*In this context, I want to ask you this: Have you ever had a child who asks you every morning before going to school, 'Mom, they won't kill you too, will they?' Know that this fear, which has taken root in the souls of my children, does not take leave for even a single day."
