Imamoglu's 14 million dollar response to Erdogan's 'extravagance' criticism

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu addressed the criticism regarding his Rome trip directed at him by AKP Chairman and President Erdogan during a live broadcast. Imamoglu expressed his reaction by saying, 'He should not lecture us on waste.'

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke at the program organized for the 162nd Anniversary of the Court of Accounts at the Court of Accounts Conference Hall, where he criticized the Rome trip organized by IMM Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. In his statement there, Erdogan used the following expressions regarding the trip organized by Imamoglu:

"A tour of Rome cannot be made with a private jet out of the nation's pocket. No institution that spends the nation's taxes can be in a state of extravagance that would break the hearts of our people. There can be no justifiable reason for a Rome tour."

Participating in Candaş Tolga Işık's program, Ekrem Imamoglu gave the following response after Işık reminded him of Erdogan's criticism of the Rome trip:

- Did you make an ethical mistake regarding the much-criticized Rome trip?

Don't go there, who says this? Is the President going to teach me how to protect public money! Even the President of Germany uses one plane, you use eight planes in this country…

I travel the world, do you know what a great waste these idle investments, structures, palaces, etc., are? Don't accuse us of waste and prodigality... I could talk for hours about the ultimate waste.
