İYİ Party leader Dervişoğlu made assessments regarding the current agenda during a live broadcast on Halk TV and answered questions from journalists. Stating that Akşener had informed him about the meeting, Dervişoğlu continued as follows:
"There is nothing more natural than people who have held important positions in state and political life making such visits to one another. I assume they exchanged views regarding the fundamental issues facing Turkey. Our Chairwoman (Akşener) informed me by calling me on the phone after the visit. She made some statements to the effect that they generally talked about Turkey. Other than that, she did not make any statement that could be described as 'private'."
Dervişoğlu stated that if "normalization" is to be achieved through political party leaders visiting one another, he is willing to speak with all political party chairmen, but that they could only support normalization after the problems facing Turkey are resolved.
Upon being asked about a possible meeting with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Dervişoğlu said, "There is nothing that has reached me at the moment. I am a newly elected chairman. I said that if the President comes to us, wishes us success, or visits us, I would not refrain from making a return visit.
At the moment, there is neither an invitation from him nor a congratulatory visit regarding my election as chairman," he said.
"IT WILL NOT CAUSE HARM"
Stating that he has no reaction to the fact that AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan met with Akşener but has not yet met with him, Dervişoğlu explained that the visit would not harm Meral Akşener.
When it was mentioned that there were some allegations regarding "Meral Akşener being offered the Vice Presidency," Dervişoğlu stated that he did not consider that likely.
STATEMENT ON TRUSTEES
When asked for his assessment regarding the appointment of a trustee to the Hakkari Municipality, Dervişoğlu stated that he does not discuss court decisions and noted that the mayor in question has been on trial for terrorism charges for 10 years.
Dervişoğlu assessed, "The final hearing for the case in which he is being tried is also approaching. In such situations, I hold the opinion that law and democracy should be applied. While we say we will keep law and democracy alive, we cannot ignore the security of the state."
Stating that he does not say anything negative about anyone who resigns from their party, Dervişoğlu noted that they cannot question those who do not find a place for themselves within the party.
