Beyoğlu Municipality, which passed from the AKP to the CHP in the March 31 local elections, has faced obstructions by the District Governor's Office.

In a written statement, Beyoğlu Municipality stated, "Beyoğlu Municipality and the Beyoğlu District Governor's Office have been using the building known as the Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Paşa Barracks together since 2023. However, as of this evening, Beyoğlu Municipality units are not being allowed to enter the building."

DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S EVICTION REQUEST

The statement noted that the building, which belongs to the Gazi Hasan Paşa Foundation, was allocated to the Ministry of Interior by the General Directorate of Foundations in 2021.

It was stated that according to a directive that came into effect in January 2024, a 1,400 m² section of the building was allocated to Beyoğlu Municipality. However, it was noted that a letter received from the District Governor's Office on August 15, 2024, demanded the evacuation of the areas allocated for the use of Beyoğlu Municipality.

Evaluating the events, Mayor İnan Güney said, "I remind you that this action is a punishment for an entire district." The incident has led to political tensions resurfacing.

Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and bureaucrats reacted to this decision in front of the District Governor's office building.
