The 52nd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) convened in Istanbul yesterday. IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu also attended the second day of the meeting, which was held at a hotel in Beşiktaş.
Speaking at the meeting, İmamoğlu said, "Istanbul is a city that has hosted important global organizations and athletes in many branches of sports. The Olympic Games are a unique organization where people from all over the world compete and focus on understanding, respecting, and living together in peace. Sport is a language that transcends languages, cultures, and nations, and this meeting is a very important opportunity to emphasize the importance of this universal language. When I examined the program of the meeting, I saw tremendous content where the Olympics are brought together with important issues such as education, economy, social integration, and sustainable development, not just physical health. And frankly, as the mayor of this ancient city, I have become even more motivated to experience the 2027 European Games and the 2036 Olympic Games in Istanbul. As a resident of this unique city, which has been a bridge not only between continents but also between societies, economies, and cultures, I thought about how well the 2027 European Games, the Istanbul 2036 Olympic Games, and the Olympic philosophy would suit Istanbul," he stated.
