Pro-government media targeted Kılıçdaroğlu, but it was the government that approved Sweden!

Months have passed since pro-government media outlets ran headlines before the election claiming that the then-opposition leader Kılıçdaroğlu was the guarantor for Sweden's NATO membership; now, Sweden, which sells military equipment to the PKK, has become a NATO member with the approval of the AKP and MHP. 

Before the election, the government's rhetoric targeting Sweden was used as domestic political fodder. However, in the final stage, expectations that the government would cast a 'no' vote proved futile.

 The pro-government media, which ran headlines such as “The person who will make Sweden a NATO member is Kılıçdaroğlu,” is now silent because the 'guarantor of Sweden' has been the AKP and MHP, who had objected to the process from the very beginning.

The expressions used in the headlines, which appeared as if they were written by a single hand before the election, were as follows:

“Sweden's guarantor is Kılıçdaroğlu”

“Sweden's Kılıçdaroğlu dream”

“I promise you, I will get you into NATO”

“Sweden's dream is for Kılıçdaroğlu to win”

'YES' VOTE FROM AKP AND MHP

As a result of the TBMM vote held on January 23, 2024, Sweden qualified for NATO membership.

In the General Assembly vote, 287 votes in favor and 55 votes against were cast, along with 4 abstentions.

While the AKP, MHP, CHP, and DEVA Party said 'yes' to Sweden's NATO membership, deputies from the İYİ Party, DEM Party, Saadet Party, HÜDA PAR, and TİP who participated in the vote cast 'no' votes.

With this result, the headlines run by the pro-government media, which seemed as if they were written by a single hand, have once again been proven hollow.
