Seçil Erzan case: 'Erzan thought she hung up the phone, but that conversation was recorded'

Serving as a branch manager at a private bank, Seçil Erzan's alleged defrauding of numerous people out of millions of dollars under the name of the "Fatih Terim fund" has revealed new details.

Recordings of a phone conversation Seçil Erzan made within the bank while working at the bank's Florya branch have been included in the case file.

According to the bank's Inspection Board report, the conversation between Ayşe E. and Seçil Erzan, which took place on February 25, 2022, at 15:14, lasted 1 minute and 10 seconds, but Erzan believed she had hung up the phone.

One of the people who fell for Seçil Erzan's "there is a private fund" promise by selling the business center inherited from her family was 62-year-old Nuray Şengüler.

For 32 years in Florya residing Şengüler stated that, according to her testimony, she had known Erzan for 10 years. She said that Erzan convinced her by saying, "You have high hospital expenses. Your money is melting away in your account. Come, let's deposit your money into the bank's private and secret fund.

Only special clients can enter this fund. 100-150 million liras are required for entry, but since I am the manager, I will try to get you into this fund," said Şengüler, who lost nearly 12 million liras in total.

Şengüler replied to these questions by saying, "I cannot say right now, it is confidential." In her statement, Şengüler said, "They were not able to help me either. No one was questioning the whereabouts of the money. At that time, the bank was not conducting any audits regarding the whereabouts of my money."

'DID YOU ALSO CONDUCT TRANSACTIONS OUTSIDE THE BANK?'

The date of the second important point in Şengüler's statement was April 8, one day after the fraud was uncovered. According to her statement, around 1:00 PM, Şengüler called the bank's headquarters to ask about Seçil Erzan and was met with the following question from a bank employee named Giray: "Did you also conduct transactions outside the bank?" she was faced with this question.

Şengüler replied to this question by saying, "I don't understand what you are saying. I cannot answer without my lawyer present," and hung up the phone.

The third critical point of the statement occurred immediately after this phone call, when she was called by the bank's Florya branch, where she had been withdrawing money for years and handing it over to Erzan. The caller from the branch asked, "Sister Nuray, did you also give the money that we always came and asked about but you didn't explain to Seçil?" it was learned that she was faced with the question.
