In the central Sur district of Diyarbakır, following an attack last month on a cafe owned by the family of Tahir Elçi's wife, Türkan Elçi, the attackers carried out a second assault on the same cafe after having been released.
THEY HAD BEEN RELEASED
The first attack took place on July 11 on the grounds that "women with revealing clothing were coming and music was being played." Following that attack, the individuals identified as V.G., U.Y., and G.Ç. were arrested and released after being held in custody for approximately one month.
CAFE OWNER AND EMPLOYEE INJURED
Yesterday evening, V.G. and U.Y., who had previously attacked the cafe, returned and physically assaulted the staff after hurling threats. The cafe owner and an employee were injured. Police teams located near the scene intervened in the altercation and took the attackers into custody. It was learned that one of the attackers attempted to seize a police officer's weapon during the intervention.
SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE EMERGES
Security camera footage of the previous attack has also emerged. In the attack that took place on the evening of July 11, the moments when masked attackers opened fire with handguns and detonated a handmade explosive were captured on camera.
The interrogation of the attackers at the police station is ongoing.
