The Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ), TOLEYİS, and the accompanying group left carnations at Kazancı Yokuşu and came to Taksim Square to lay a wreath for May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day.
Making a statement on behalf of TÜRK-İŞ and TOLEYİS at Kazancı Yokuşu, TOLEYİS Union General President Cemail Bakındı said, "The working class will never forget the history of May 1st. May 1st events resulted in bad outcomes before September 12. After September 12, the working class waged great struggles to regain freedoms. In the end, our President declared May 1st a holiday.
Security must absolutely be provided in a place like Taksim. There is no reason why it should not be. We have now become a community that respects our police, respects our soldiers, respects our nation, and loves one another. From now on, both politicians and those who govern Turkey need to embrace one another."
