US-based aviation company Boeing to plead guilty to fraud charges related to 737 Max crashes

The US government has announced that Boeing will plead guilty to fraud in the Department of Justice investigation conducted in connection with the fatal 737 MAX crashes and has agreed to pay a 243.6 million dollar fine. This plea will result in Boeing being branded a convicted felon, which will severely damage the company's reputation.

According to a report by Reuters, Boeing was accused due to the 737 MAX crashes that occurred in Indonesia and Ethiopia in 2018 and 2019, which resulted in a total of 346 deaths. These tragic accidents caused great shock worldwide and led to questions regarding Boeing's safety standards. The families of those who lost their lives in the crashes were demanding that Boeing be put on trial and pay heavier penalties. The families stated that the company did not fulfill its responsibilities and that its negligence led to these tragic results.

The US Department of Justice subjected the company to criminal prosecution after determining in May that Boeing had violated its 2021 agreement regarding the fatal crashes. This situation revealed that Boeing had breached previously made agreements and would face additional sanctions.

A Boeing spokesperson confirmed that an agreement in principle on the terms of a resolution has been reached with the US Department of Justice. Under the agreement, Boeing has agreed to spend at least 455 million dollars over the next three years to strengthen its safety and compliance programs. Additionally, the Boeing board of directors will be required to meet with the relatives of those who died in the MAX crashes.
