Witness recounts the day of the ‘Şafak Mahmutyazıcıoğlu’ murder in court
The trial of 20 defendants for the armed attack that claimed the life of lawyer Şafak Mahmutyazıcıoğlu at a restaurant in the Yeşilköy Fish Market last year continued. The hearing was adjourned to address outstanding deficiencies.

The hearing at the Bakırköy 12th High Criminal Court was attended by 7 detained defendants, several non-detained defendants, and lawyers.
Şafak Mahmutyazıcıoğlu's brother, Celal Mahmutyazıcıoğlu, and their lawyers were also present at the hearing. Raşit Dündar, a witness who was serving tea at the restaurant on the day of the incident, explained that two people arrived from outside and wanted to speak with Şafak Mahmutyazıcıoğlu, and that Mahmutyazıcıoğlu asked them to wait at a back table because he was meeting with someone else.
Dündar stated that he served tea to the individuals who arrived and attended to other customers, noting that he was not present at the exact moment of the incident. The public prosecutor requested the continuation of the defendants' detention and that the file be sent to him to prepare his final opinion.

WHAT HAPPENED?
The indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office states that Şafak Mahmutyazıcıoğlu was killed and Murat Bilmez was injured in an armed attack at a restaurant in Yeşilköy on January 27, 2022.
The indictment seeks aggravated life imprisonment for defendants Abdulkadir Kara and Ali Yasak for "complicity in premeditated murder," as well as prison sentences ranging from 3 years and 9 months to 12 years and 6 months for "complicity in intentional injury with a weapon," "attempted robbery at a workplace at night with more than one person with a weapon," and "purchasing or possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition."
The indictment, which calls for aggravated life imprisonment and prison sentences ranging from 3 years and 9 months to 10 years and 6 months for 8 defendants, including Kadir Yasak, for similar crimes, also requests that 9 individuals be sentenced to 6 months to 5 years for "aiding and abetting a criminal," and that Batuhan Aldatmaz be sentenced to 1 to 10 years for "aiding and abetting a criminal" and "destroying, concealing, or altering criminal evidence."
