Fatih Karahan named new Central Bank Governor
With an appointment decision published in the Official Gazette, Hafize Gaye Erkan has been removed from her post as Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, and a new appointment has been made. The new Central Bank Governor, Fatih Karahan, began his professional career at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in 2012.

The decision regarding the appointment of Fatih Karahan as Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB), signed by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has been published in the Official Gazette.
According to the decision, TCMB Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan was removed from her post in accordance with the additional Article 35 of Decree-Law No. 375 and Article 2 of Presidential Decree No. 3. Fatih Karahan, who was serving as Deputy Governor, was appointed to the vacant position of TCMB Governor in accordance with Article 25 of Law No. 1211 and Articles 2, 3, and 7 of Presidential Decree No. 3.
FATİH KARAHAN'S BIOGRAPHY
Born in Eskişehir in 1982, Fatih Karahan graduated from Boğaziçi University with degrees in Mathematics and Industrial Engineering in 2006.
Karahan completed his master's and doctoral degrees in economics at the University of Pennsylvania in 2012.
Starting his professional career as an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in 2012, Karahan served as the Head of Labor and Product Market Studies and as a Monetary Policy Advisor at the institution until 2022.
Having also worked as a part-time lecturer at Columbia University and New York University, Karahan began working as a senior economist at Amazon in 2022. In November 2022, Karahan was appointed as Chief Economist at Amazon.
Karahan had been appointed as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey on July 28, 2023.
