Thousands of retirees could lose their pensions: SSI has launched a retroactive investigation

The Social Security Institution (SSI) is conducting a retroactive review of premium payments, and individuals are being summoned to provide statements in cases of suspected irregularities.

The initiative aims to identify those who, despite not working in any job, registered themselves as insured to qualify for retirement and gained retirement rights through 'shell companies'.

Those flagged by the investigation have been requested to appear at local SSI district offices within 3 business days to provide a statement.

According to the report by Sözcü, if it is determined that the individual did not engage in actual work activity during the suspicious period, the premium payments subject to the irregularity will be deleted from the system.

NOT JUST CANCELLATION OF THE PENSION...

While it is expected that many people will lose their retirement rights with this change, the restrictions will not be limited to the cancellation of the monthly pension.

Citizens who have been receiving retirement pensions for a long time will be required to repay the pension payments they have received to date, along with legal interest, if it is determined as a result of these investigations that they committed irregularities.

SSI experts state that retroactive investigations can be conducted for 10 years from the date of retirement, while noting that the statute of limitations will apply to audits exceeding this period.
