Güveç Ingredients:
- 550 grams of beef (diced)
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 1 large onion (chopped)
- 2-3 cloves of garlic (finely chopped)
- 1 teaspoon of tomato paste
- 2 zucchinis (roughly chopped)
- 1 cup of hot water
- 2 tomatoes (grated or chopped)
- 2 green peppers (roughly chopped)
- 2 eggplants (roughly chopped)
- 2 potatoes (roughly chopped)
- Salt and black pepper
- Red pepper flakes
- Fresh thyme or basil
Güveç Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
- Grease a clay pot (güveç) or a deep baking dish with vegetable oil.
- Place the diced beef in the pot and sauté over medium heat until the meat releases its juices and absorbs them back.
- Add the onion and garlic, and sauté lightly.
- Add the tomato paste and the grated or chopped tomatoes. Cook the mixture for a few more minutes.
- Add the chopped vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, potatoes) to the pot and mix.
- Add the hot water, along with seasonings such as salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, and stir.
- Place the clay pot in the oven and bake for approximately 45-60 minutes until the vegetables are tender. You can use the top part of the oven until the top is browned.
- Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh thyme or basil leaves, and serve hot.
