Many are curious about how to make tarhana meatballs, which are known to be good for colds and the digestive system, and what ingredients are needed.
So, how do you make tarhana meatballs?
Tarhana Meatball Ingredients:
*Ingredients are for 2 servings.
*1 cup = 200 ml
For the meatballs;
• 1 cup fine bulgur
• 1 cup hot water
• Half a cup of powdered tarhana
• 1 tablespoon flour
• 1 tablespoon tomato/pepper paste (I used a mix of pepper and tomato paste)
• 1 teaspoon dried mint
• 1 teaspoon salt (you can adjust according to the saltiness of your tarhana and paste)
• 1 medium onion + 1.5 cups hot water
For the tomato paste sauce;
• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
• 1 tablespoon butter
• 1 teaspoon tomato paste (I used tomato paste)
• 1 teaspoon dried mint and red chili powder
• +Garlic yogurt
Preparation of Tarhana Meatballs:
We start by pouring hot water over our bulgur and letting it swell for about 10 minutes with the lid closed.
Once the bulgur has swelled; add the tarhana, flour, paste, dried mint, and salt, and knead into a dough. (Some people add 1 egg, but I chose not to)
We shape the bulgur dough into tiny balls as shown in the video.
In a wide pot, we start cooking the onions we have diced. When the onions soften, we carefully place our tarhana meatballs on top and pour in 1.5 cups of hot water.
With the lid closed, we wait for the water to boil over medium heat. (Approximately 20 minutes) Once bubbles start to appear, we open the lid and continue cooking until the water has completely evaporated. Your meatballs are now ready.
For the tomato paste sauce; add the ingredients listed above for the sauce into a small pan and cook without burning them.
Finally, serve the meatballs with garlic yogurt and the tomato paste sauce on top.
