Breaking News: Journalist Güneri Cıvaoğlu has passed away

Milliyet columnist and journalist Güneri Cıvaoğlu, who had been receiving cancer treatment for some time, has passed away at the age of 85.

The sad news was announced by Milliyet Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Özay Şendir.

In a post on his X account, Şendir stated, 'We have lost our elder brother Güneri.'

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ANNOUNCED

Many politicians, bureaucrats, and journalists published condolence messages on their social media accounts upon hearing the news of the death of Cıvaoğlu, who was being treated at a hospital in Beşiktaş and had reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage.

It was stated that Cıvaoğlu's funeral will be held from Teşvikiye Mosque on Thursday at 11:00 AM, following a ceremony to be held at Milliyet newspaper.

HE HAD AN ACCIDENT IN JULY

Journalist Güneri Cıvaoğlu had fallen after losing his balance at a restaurant he visited in July.

Cıvaoğlu, who hit his head, was taken to intensive care after it was determined that he had developed edema in two areas of his brain and a thin hemorrhage due to the impact.

WHO IS GÜNERİ CIVAOĞLU?

Güneri Cıvaoğlu was born on July 30, 1939, in Ankara.

A graduate of Ankara University Faculty of Law, Cıvaoğlu's journalism career began in the 1960s.

Cıvaoğlu worked as a reporter for Akis magazine and Yeni İstanbul newspaper. He was the head of the team that prepared the morning news during the establishment of TRT.

He studied economics for a while at the University of Strasbourg, and in the following years, he served as the editor-in-chief of Tercüman newspaper.

He founded the Güneş newspaper as a partner and editor-in-chief.

He worked as a columnist for Sabah newspaper between 1986 and 1996.

Since 1996, he had continued his writing at Milliyet newspaper.

Cıvaoğlu also included programming in his career.

With his memorable program "Şeffaf Oda" (Transparent Room), he hosted many guests from different sectors for years.
