The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the couple Engin and Dilan Polat for violating the Law on Prevention of Laundering Proceeds of Crime, the Tax Procedure Law, and the Law on Regulation of Betting and Games of Chance in Football and Other Sports Competitions, and they were arrested and sent to prison last week.
Lawyer Çağdaş Çelik has announced the potential sentence the Dilan and Engin Polat couple could face at the end of their trial.

'THEY COULD RECEIVE SENTENCES APPROACHING 20-25 YEARS'

Çelik stated, "I believe the indictment will be written in at least 6 months. They will spend that time in custody as well. The crime of money laundering carries a sentence of 6 to 16 years. Establishing an organization carries 2 to 6 years, and the crime of tax evasion carries 2 to 5 years... If it is proven that these were committed in a chain, there is a 1/4 increase for the tax evasion charge... They could receive sentences approaching 20-25 years," he said.
