Horrific murder in Samsun: Mother kills daughter and attempts to stage a suicide

In Samsun, a mother who strangled her daughter, a guidance counselor, to death, cut her wrist to stage a suicide and reported it to the police. The truth about the young woman's murder emerged during the autopsy, leading to the mother's arrest and subsequent confession.

Tuba Günaydın (34), who had been experiencing psychological issues following the loss of her brother, who was martyred in Hakkari in 2021, had also divorced her husband during the same period. Tuba Günaydın, who began working as a guidance counselor in Samsun, had started living with her mother, Sultan Günaydın, due to health problems in her right eye and partial paralysis in her right foot.

Tuba Günaydın's mother, Sultan Günaydın, reported to the 112 Emergency Call Center the previous night that her daughter was lying motionless in the bathroom with her left wrist cut, adding that she had been experiencing psychological distress recently. Police and medical teams arriving at the scene determined that the young woman had lost her life. It was initially thought that Tuba Günaydın had committed suicide by cutting her wrist, but the truth came to light when the autopsy revealed fractures in her neck consistent with strangulation.

"I STAGED A SUICIDE AND CALLED THE POLICE"

Mother Sultan Günaydın was taken into custody by teams from the Samsun Police Department's Public Security Branch, Homicide Bureau, in accordance with the prosecutor's instructions. During police questioning, the mother confessed to the crime, stating, "I was lying on the sofa on the night of the incident. My daughter was in the bathroom brushing her teeth. She called me over. When I went to her, she attacked me. I pushed her and she fell. She got up and attacked me again. This time, to save myself, I strangled her, and she fell to the ground. She was lying motionless. She was dead. I took a knife from the kitchen, cut her left wrist to stage a suicide, and notified the police."

The mother was referred to the Samsun Courthouse following her police interrogation.
