The digital video game distribution platform Steam, which operates in Turkey, has announced that it will withdraw support for the Turkish Lira.
A 200 PERCENT PRICE HIKE IS COMING
Steam had fixed the exchange rate at 10 TL in 2022, up from 1.8 TL. However, the digital game distribution platform has announced that as of November 20, all games on Steam will be sold in US dollars and that existing balances will also be converted to dollars.
Consequently, games on the platform will see a price increase of approximately 200 percent.
The following statement was made by Steam:
"High exchange rate volatility in Argentina and Turkey in recent years has made it difficult for game developers to choose and keep appropriate pricing for these currencies. We have heard this feedback loud and clear in our developer meetups and chats.
In addition, we have faced significant challenges in keeping Steam payment methods up to date and functional due to constant currency fluctuations, fees, taxes, and logistical issues in these countries/territories.
Changing pricing for Steam customers in Argentina and Turkey to USD will help us provide more stability and consistency for both players and partners, while enabling us to continue offering a variety of payment methods to Steam users in these countries/territories."
