Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel answered questions from İsmail Küçükkaya on the "Yeni Bir Sabah" (A New Morning) program broadcast on Halk TV. Stating that he is not satisfied with Turkey's current governance system, Özel expressed that the country is in need of a new Constitution.

'70 PERCENT OF TURKEY IS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE NEW SYSTEM'

Emphasizing that a social consensus must be achieved in Turkey, Özgür Özel said, "A social consensus text is achieved through social consensus. 70 percent of Turkey is not satisfied with the governance system. If you ask people in Turkey today what they want, no one will write a constitution. But is there a need for a Constitution? I think there is."

Özel stated that President Erdoğan is creating obstacles to the creation of a new Constitution and said that the current Constitution must be fully complied with.

EARLY ELECTION AND ERDOĞAN'S CANDIDACY

Making assessments regarding an early election, Özel stated that an early election could be held in the middle of Erdoğan's term and used the following expressions:

"There are two ways for elections to be held in Turkey today. If the Parliament renews the elections with 360 deputies, Erdoğan has the right to be a candidate one last time. His term of office is five years. We will renew the elections. We have no fear of anyone."

A NEW DEVELOPMENT PROCESS WILL BEGIN

Stating that it is important to defeat Erdoğan and start a new development process if an election is held in the spring of 2026 or next November, Özel said, "We must defeat Erdoğan. And we must start a new development process."
