Following Sancaktepe, a message for İmamoğlu from the Mayor of Silivri

The agenda of politics is early elections…

New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) Chairman Fatih Erbakan made an early election push, stating that the date for an early election should be discussed based on 2025.

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu also reiterated his call for an early election.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel also made his "there is no livelihood, there will be an early election" statement today (August 2, 2024) at the hazelnut rally in Giresun.

The intense early election debate on the political stage has been met with a response from the camp of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

First, let us recall the presidential candidacy debate within the CHP.

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, when asked on Sözcü TV, said that CHP leader Özgür Özel would be a tougher opponent for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan than IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, adding, "If I were in his place, I would not want to compete with Özgür Özel."

Following this, a debate took place within the CHP over whether the presidential candidate should be Özgür Özel or Ekrem İmamoğlu.

CHP leader Özgür Özel put an end to the candidacy debate by saying, "There are currently two strikers on the team... But many new figures are also shining. One is Mansur Yavaş, the other is Ekrem İmamoğlu. When the day comes, one of our friends will be the presidential candidate."
