New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) Chairman Fatih Erbakan made an early election push, stating that the date for early elections should be discussed based on 2025.

IYI Party Chairman Musavat Dervisoglu also reiterated his call for early elections.

CHP Chairman Ozgur Ozel also made his “there is no livelihood, there will be an early election” push today (August 2, 2024) at the hazelnut rally in Giresun.

A response to the intense early election debate on the political stage came from the camp of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.

First, let us recall the presidential candidacy debate within the CHP.

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Basarir, when asked on Sozcu TV, said that CHP leader Ozgur Ozel would be a tougher opponent for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan than IMM Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavas, adding, “If I were in his place, I would not want to compete with Ozgur Ozel.”

Following this, a debate took place within the CHP over whether the presidential candidate should be Ozgur Ozel or Ekrem Imamoglu.

CHP leader Ozgur Ozel put an end to the candidacy debate by saying, “There are currently two strikers on the team... But many new figures are also shining. One is Mansur Yavas, the other is Ekrem Imamoglu. When the day comes, one of our friends will be the presidential candidate.”
