Politics in Turkey is heating up on the eve of the local elections to be held on March 31. Following the formation of alliances, parties have determined their candidates and accelerated their efforts.

The Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), one of the region's strong parties, also reacted to the re-nomination of Lütfü Savaş. The party leadership announced that if Savaş's candidacy is not withdrawn, they will participate strongly in the elections in Hatay and will not leave earthquake survivors without options.

TİP, which carried out intensive work in the region during the earthquake period, has won a parliamentary seat from Hatay in the last two elections. Nominating Can Atalay, who was imprisoned in the Gezi trial, as a candidate in the May 14 elections, TİP received 8.56 percent of the votes in the earthquake-stricken city with 76,580 votes.

TİP'S DECISION ON GÖKHAN ZAN

TİP was unsuccessful in its efforts to persuade former Hatay MP and party executive Barış Atay to become a candidate.

TİP, which has the power to influence the election result in Hatay, has reached the end of its candidate determination process.

According to information obtained, the party leadership will nominate former Hatay footballer Gökhan Zan as the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral Candidate if the CHP does not withdraw Lütfü Savaş. The decision will be announced to the public at a press conference to be held today at 11:00 AM.

If the CHP withdraws Savaş, former national footballer Gökhan Zan will also withdraw his candidacy. And it is very likely that he will be a candidate from Antakya, the central district of Hatay.

Zan, who is one of the well-known names in the city due to his work and statements during the earthquake period, has recently been coming to the agenda with the controversies he has entered into.

THE SUBJECT OF CANDIDACY HAD NOT BEEN BROUGHT UP

At the beginning of January, it was claimed that TİP had made a candidacy offer to Gökhan Zan, but the TİP Press Bureau stated, "There is no concrete candidacy offer, and the subject of candidacy was not brought up in the meeting. Erkan Baş called him to get a general idea about the situation in Hatay and to make an assessment. They are planning to meet in person in the coming days."

Gökhan Zan, who was a parliamentary candidate from the İYİ Party after the February 6 earthquakes, was not elected. Gökhan Zan later resigned from the İYİ Party.
