Independent IMM Mayoral Candidate Taylan Yıldız: 'Ekrem İmamoğlu and Murat Kurum have nothing to do with the youth'
Independent candidate for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor, Taylan Yıldız, had brought the issue of making Istanbul University campuses accessible to citizens to the agenda. Explaining the behind-the-scenes of his entry into the campus, Yıldız stated, "The youth called me, and I arrived at the scene. As you can see, the other IMM mayoral candidates, Ekrem İmamoğlu and Murat Kurum, have nothing to do with the youth."

Istanbul University's historic Beyazıt Campus being opened to citizen visits on weekdays between 13:00 and 16:00 by appointment has sparked public debate.
Criticizing the practice, Independent Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayoral Candidate Taylan Yıldız made headlines by entering the campus.
'THEY MAY WANT TO PROVOKE SENSITIVE ISSUES'
Explaining the behind-the-scenes of the event to 12punto, Taylan Yıldız said, "I did not see any of those touring the place walking around with a love for history or culture. It should not be forgotten that Istanbul University is a political school. If you appreciate it, there are already 280 thousand people. Some may want to provoke sensitive issues, but the youth will not give in to those with ill intentions" he said.
'THEIR REFLEXES ARE INADEQUATE'
Stating that the youth invited him to the school, Yıldız used the expressions, "I listened to the voice of the youth. I am always by their side. We did not see the other IMM mayoral candidates, Ekrem İmamoğlu and Murat Kurum, here. I invited them too, but they did not come. Because they have nothing to do with the youth. Their reflexes are inadequate in this regard. Or perhaps they have other agendas."
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a statement made by the Istanbul University Rectorate, it was announced that visitors would be admitted to all campuses affiliated with the university:
"We are opening certain areas of our campus to visits with the mutual respect, understanding, and careful attention of stakeholders in order to get to know this unique atmosphere more closely and feel science more intensely. We have full faith that the procedures our visitors will be subject to and the visits will take place with mutual care, diligence, and the understanding that our University is a home of science."
Following the reaction in public opinion, the Istanbul University Rectorate published a new statement.
Istanbul University announced that visits to the university would take place on weekdays between 13:00 and 16:00, covering the Beyazıt campus garden due to its historical and cultural characteristics, by making an appointment through the website.
