The zoning plan prepared by the AKP-run Arnavutköy Municipality has been approved by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

The plan in question has drawn attention for being located 4 kilometers from the Kanal Istanbul Project and adjacent to the Baykar Special Industrial Zone.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, the board of directors of Baykar is chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's son-in-law, Selçuk Bayraktar.

The prepared report states that the zoning plan is located in the Ömerli neighborhood of the Arnavutköy district, right next to an area where industrial and logistics facilities are situated.

The region also stands out for its proximity to the Black Sea and Istanbul Airport. It was stated that the effects of the Kanal Istanbul Project, which passes through the district's borders, were also taken into account within the framework of the zoning plan.

While it is stated that this area, which is adjacent to the Baykar Special Industrial Zone, is planned for industrial and logistics use, it is assessed that this development will increase the strategic importance of the Arnavutköy district.
