Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş made statements regarding the new constitution discussions.
Kurtulmuş stated, "I would like to express that almost all of the parties represented in the TBMM are in agreement regarding the first four articles, and that any discussions on this matter would be an unnecessary waste of time. As the TBMM Speaker, we consider it our duty to ensure that the views of the parties in Parliament are taken and the process is conducted transparently, alongside a period where the views of universities, legal communities, and NGOs are also sought."

During this period, written parliamentary questions were also submitted. Furthermore, as the TBMM Speaker, 84 motions were submitted, 74 of which have been answered. In the 28th Legislative Term, 2 research commissions have completed their activities.
"A NEW CONSTITUTIONAL EFFORT IS MANDATORY"
Beyond legislative and oversight activities, I would like to emphasize that this is a Parliament that has marked the 100th anniversary of our Republic. I would like to state once again that this Parliament carries significant responsibilities and a great obligation to carry out work that will be in the interest of the nation.
In this context, new constitutional efforts are one of the important tasks that will come to the agenda of the TBMM. The time has come to get rid of the September 12 constitution. I would like to express that it is possible for the constitution to be discussed under the roof of the Parliament and within legal frameworks, as discussions mature both in terms of method and content, with all segments of society being voiced. It is mandatory to carry out a constitutional effort that is civil, democratic, participatory, fully embraces the separation of powers, is suitable for Turkey's realities, and meets the needs of our nation.
Our political parties currently in parliament have expressed this necessity in the past regarding the constitution. From now on, I will also fulfill my responsibility to ensure that this ground is kept truly democratic in style and open to discussion.
