Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel has responded to the speculation that emerged following a recent accident at his home. Speaking to İsmail Saymaz regarding the allegations directed at him, Özel stated, "I am in Ankara; let them come, and we can examine the X-rays together," expressing his desire to put an end to all suspicions.

IT SWELLED, WE APPLIED ICE

Özel had injured his foot in an accident at his home in recent days, which had led to various conspiracy theories.

Sharing the details of the unfortunate incident, Özgür Özel stated that the accident occurred on the wooden stairs in his home and that there was no outside interference. "When I stepped on the floor on my left toe, it clicked. I looked, it was swollen. We applied ice," Özel said, emphasizing that the event was a simple accident.

Furthermore, the CHP leader also made assessments regarding the political agenda. Özel stated that the speech Kılıçdaroğlu gave at the Hacı Bektaş Veli commemoration ceremonies did not contain a political message, and that if such messages are to be given, more appropriate platforms should be chosen. Özel said, "Hacıbektaş is a place that calls to everyone. It is not an appropriate place for political messages."

I AM IMPATIENT TO GO TO PALESTINE

Özgür Özel stated that he had to postpone his planned visit to Palestine due to the unfortunate accident he experienced. Stating that he spoke with Mahmoud Abbas on the phone, Özel expressed that Abbas showed him great hospitality and that he is looking forward to his visit to Palestine. During the conversation, Özel also drew attention to the following words of Abbas:

PALESTINE IS YOUR SECOND HOMELAND

Stating that Mahmoud Abbas recalled the historical ties between the CHP and Palestine, Özel shared the following remarks from Abbas: “We have known the CHP since the time of Ecevit. The relationship established between Yasser Arafat and Ecevit is valuable. You have also shown incredible interest in Palestine and have become our window opening to the West. You are always welcome in Palestine. You set the date, and we would be honored to host you.”

Özel stated that he plans to go to Palestine once his health improves and suggested that September 1, World Peace Day, could be an appropriate date.

BYLAWS CONVENTION

Speaking about the upcoming Bylaws Convention of the CHP, Özel announced that important changes aimed at expanding intra-party democracy will be made. Özel stated that issues such as guaranteeing primary elections and removing the "no primary election" clause in cases of alliances will be addressed. He also said that he plans to share the chairman's authority to determine parliamentary candidates with the women's and youth branches.

A CHAIRMAN WHO FAILS SHOULD TAKE THE PARTY TO A CONVENTION

Stating that if a chairman is unsuccessful in elections, they should take the party to a convention, Özel said, "If I do not lead the party to power, I will not be a candidate." He also stated that the issue of introducing a two- or three-term limit for members of parliament will be discussed. However, he noted that this restriction might not be applied to members of parliament elected through primary elections.
