A Turkish astrophotographer has been awarded in the Sun category at the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition organized by the Royal Observatory Greenwich in London. Mehmet Ergün, who captures space with his photographs, was deemed worthy of the third-place award in the Sun category.

The "Astronomy Photographer of the Year" competition, held for the 15th time this year, is known as a more difficult category compared to others in the Sun category. The competition, which received applications with more than 4 thousand photographs from 64 countries, holds the distinction of being the most prestigious astronomy photography competition. The photograph taken by Ergün, which earned him third place, features a massive solar flare. Special equipment and filters were used for the photograph, which was taken with a 500-millimeter lens.
