Steam had previously announced that it would switch to the US Dollar in Turkey. The change to be implemented by Steam was announced as follows:
"The Steam store in Argentina and Turkey will begin using USD. This change will be accompanied by new regional pricing for Latin America and the Middle East/North Africa across a total of 25 countries and regions. Starting November 20, Steam will change the currency used for sales in Argentina and Turkey to USD. We will implement this change using two new pricing regions: 'LATAM-USD' (which includes Argentina) and 'MENA-USD' (which includes Turkey). In some countries/regions listed below, there may be a price increase or decrease in line with Steam pricing. As with all Steam pricing, game developers can sell their games at any price they choose on Steam.
The high exchange rate volatility experienced in Argentina and Turkey in recent years has made it difficult for game developers to choose and consistently maintain appropriate prices in these currencies. We have encountered this feedback very frequently in our developer meetings and conversations. In addition, we have faced significant difficulties in keeping Steam payment methods up-to-date and functional due to constant currency fluctuations, fees, taxes, and logistical issues in these countries/regions. Changing prices to USD for customers in Argentina and Turkey helps us provide a more standard and consistent service to both players and partners, while also meaning we can continue to offer various payment methods to users living in these countries/regions."
WARNING ISSUED BY STEAM PUBLISHED ON ITS SITE
Following this, it was reported that it is suggestedthat lower dollar pricing be applied in the regions where the new pricing will take effect. The statement includes the following details:
"We recommend setting lower USD prices in these new regions and have updated the recommendations in our pricing tools to reflect this. You can find the list of all countries/regions included in these new pricing regions here. Regional USD pricing will be used for the first time in 25 countries/regions across Latin America and the Middle East and North Africa. If you do not add a price in USD to these columns for your game before November 20, we will use your standard USD pricing in Steamworks as the default."
