Turkey conducts 'Mirror Committee' work on artificial intelligence

Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) President Mahmut Sami Şahin stated that they participate in the artificial intelligence work of international technical committees, primarily in Europe, through the activities of the Artificial Intelligence Mirror Committee established within the institution in 2022, adding, "Standardization work carried out by the committee contributes to the creation of standards that support the country's activities in the field of artificial intelligence."

Şahin provided information regarding the TSE's "Artificial Intelligence Mirror Committee," which has been active for one year.

Pointing out that the search for low-cost, rapid decision-making and high-quality product manufacturing and service provision through digital transformation has made the use of artificial intelligence popular in the private sector and public institutions, Şahin said, "The Artificial Intelligence Mirror Committee was established within the TSE in Turkey in 2022 to monitor and bring to our country many advantages and conveniences in the business world."

He reported that the number of members of the TSE Artificial Intelligence Mirror Committee has reached 44.

Şahin stated that the Artificial Intelligence Mirror Committee has been holding monthly meetings since the day it was established, and provided the following information:

"In these meetings, reviews regarding European and international draft standards for which opinions were requested during that month were evaluated, and the national position was decided. The committee coordinates contacts related to this sector in our country and the work required for current monitoring. Our committee reports our national position through the TSE on matters such as CIB-coded internal committee votes and draft standard votes announced by relevant European and international committees."

Touching upon the activities carried out by the Artificial Intelligence Mirror Committee, Şahin noted the following:

"Standardization work carried out by the Artificial Intelligence Mirror Committee operating within the Institute contributes to the creation of standards that support the work conducted within the scope of the country's roadmap in the field of artificial intelligence, as outlined in the 2021-2025 National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. With this, by ensuring compliance with standards that are the subject of international approaches and legislation, such as the European Union (EU) Artificial Intelligence Act draft and the 'NATO Artificial Intelligence Framework,' it is aimed that our country and our domestic and national producers who will export abroad can easily comply with these regulations, thereby overcoming potential obstacles to international trade. Our Artificial Intelligence Mirror Committee also participates as a member in working groups of European and international artificial intelligence standardization technical committees, such as the 'Artificial Intelligence Standardization Roadmap,' 'Foundational and Social Aspects,' 'Data,' 'Trustworthiness,' and 'Engineering Aspects,' and actively contributes to the work carried out by these international working groups."
