Webb captures image of exploded star 11,000 light-years away

NASA's James Webb Telescope has managed to photograph an unprecedented view of an exploded star.

James Webb has now imaged Cassiopeia A, located 11,000 light-years from Earth. Known as the youngest supernova remnant in the Milky Way Galaxy, also called Cas A, it was formed 340 years ago by the explosion of another star.

SHEDDING LIGHT ON THE FUTURE

NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has succeeded in capturing the most detailed and clear image of Cas A, which has been researched and studied since its discovery.

The high-resolution images were captured with the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) on the JWST. What is considered important here is that it contains information about the collision of gas and materials ejected by the star before it exploded. 

Danny Millisavljevic, who leads the research team from Purdue University, spoke about the subject as follows:

"With the resolution of NIRCam, we can now see how the dying star shattered when it exploded and left behind filaments that look like tiny shards of glass."
