9 people die after eating sea turtle in Tanzania
On Pemba Island, part of the Zanzibar archipelago in Tanzania, 9 people, including 8 children, have died after eating sea turtle meat.

Sea turtles have caused deaths in the Zanzibar archipelago, which is part of Tanzania.
It was reported that 9 people, 8 of whom were children, lost their lives after being hospitalized for eating the meat of an infected sea turtle on Pemba Island, while 78 others are receiving treatment.
Haji Bakari, a medical officer in the town of Mkoani on Pemba Island, stated, "Laboratory tests confirm that all the patients had consumed sea turtle meat on Tuesday (last week)."
Authorities have urged the local population to refrain from eating sea turtle meat.
In 2021, 7 people, including a 3-year-old child, died on Pemba Island after falling ill from consuming sea turtle meat.
