It has been claimed that the ceasefire proposal for the Gaza Strip, which was accepted by Hamas and presented by Egypt and Qatar, consists of three 42-day phases.
A source familiar with the matter stated that the ceasefire would begin with the withdrawal of Israel from the Netzarim Corridor, which divides the Gaza Strip into northern and southern sections.
The source stated that the second phase includes a permanent cessation of Israeli attacks and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, while the third phase involves ending the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
"IT LOOKS LIKE A TRICK"
Reports in the Israeli press stated that Israeli officials received Hamas's ceasefire response through mediators and that Israel is currently reviewing the response.
The reports indicated that Israeli officials said regarding the agreement, which Israel and Egypt had agreed upon 10 days ago and which has formed the basis of indirect negotiations since then, that "this is not the same proposal."
An Israeli official said that the proposal accepted by Hamas is a "softened" version of the Egyptian proposal, which contains "far-reaching" consequences that Israel cannot accept. The official said, "This looks like a trick intended to make Israel appear as the party rejecting the deal."
US REVIEWING CEASEFIRE PROPOSAL
US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller also stated that the US would not comment on the matter until it has fully reviewed Hamas's response to the ceasefire proposal, saying, "I can confirm that Hamas has issued a response.
We are currently reviewing that response and discussing it with our partners in the region.
As you know, CIA Director Burns is in the region working on this in real time. We will be discussing this response with our partners in the coming hours," he said.
