Death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi: Flags lowered to half-mast at the UN

The United Nations (UN) has lowered its flag to half-mast to commemorate Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and those who lost their lives in the helicopter crash.

The UN flag at the UN headquarters in New York was lowered to half-mast during a ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, as well as several officials from the UN protocol unit.

Members of the UN Security Council also held a moment of silence on May 20 following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and their companions in a helicopter crash.

President Raisi had attended a dam inauguration ceremony on the Iran-Azerbaijan border on May 19.

Raisi was involved in a helicopter crash while returning with Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian and other officials.
