The Dutch Parliament has approved a decision conditioning the modernization of the European Union's Customs Union agreement with Turkey on the implementation of European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rulings regarding the release of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş and businessman Osman Kavala.

'BLOCK' CALL

The joint motion by Dutch MP Kati Piri, a former EU rapporteur for Turkey, and İsa Kahraman, the first Syriac MP in the Dutch Parliament, called for the Netherlands to block the discussion of the Customs Union modernization with Turkey in the EU unless Demirtaş and Kavala are released.

Kati Piri announced the decision on her X account with the message: "No modernization of the customs union with Turkey is possible without the implementation of the European Court of Human Rights' decisions regarding the immediate release of Osman Kavala and Selahattin Demirtaş."
